About the Project

We are planning infrastructure upgrades to Main Street, from Centennial Park east to the village sign. Our current expectation is that these will be undertaken in three stages, in three separate construction seasons, the overall project will accomplish the following:

  • Signalized intersection installation at Windermere Boulevard. This will include traffic calming measures and pedestrian crossing
  • Road reconstruction
  • Watermain reconstruction, including replacement of the existing high-pressure main
  • Sewer main reconstruction, including improvements to gravity drainage in the east end
  • Install sidewalks on the south side of Main Street
  • Install multi-use pathway on the north side of Main Street
  • Drainage improvements, including curb and gutter
  • Pedestrian crossing(s)

The actual construction timeline will be determined by funding and the Township's annual capital budget process.

In 2024 the Township was awarded funding from the Ministry of Transportation’s Connecting Links Program, which is intended to help maintain municipal roads that connect two sections of provincial highway. The funding we received has been used to undertake the design for the full extent of the planned work.

In December 2024, we held a Public Information Centre to present the conceptual design. You can have a look at the design concept under Document and Drawings below.

More Information

Bath, formerly the Village of Bath, is located in the southwestern mainland of the Township. The overall project area is the section of Main Street from Centennial Park east to the village sign east of Sir John Johnson Drive.

Main Street - Bath is a busy arterial road, connecting two separate sections of the provincially-owned Highway 33/Bath Road. This section of Main Street includes single family homes, commercial businesses, and parkland.

Before starting the project design, we usually do a number of investigations:

  • CCTV inspections of the existing sewers (sanitary and/or storm) helps us understand their condition
  • Surveying confirms property lines and the road right-of-way
  • Locates confirm underground infrastructure owned by us and other utility companies
  • Geotechnical (boreholes) tell us about the condition of the rock or ground in the project area and help us plan to manage the excess soils created by construction due to provincial legislation

We start compiling this information several years before we plan to start the design work.

Property owners play an important part as well.

To help us protect your property, it's important for us to know about the location of any private underground infrastructure, like sump drainage lines, irrigation systems, or buried wires, so they aren't disturbed during construction.

We are also interested in information regarding the Township's infrastructure, such as coloured water concerns, drainage issues, or sewer backups.

We encourage you to get in touch with project staff, who are happy to discuss and/or meet you onsite to address any questions or concerns.

Infrastructure renewal projects are planned and prioritized based on the condition of existing roads, watermains, and sewers. Through the Township's annual capital budget process, staff make their best recommendation to Council as to which projects should be prioritized, and Council make the final determination. Therefore, the timing of this project will be subject to budget priorities, as well as the availability of any grant funding opportunities from other levels of government.

Main Street - Bath is considered by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation to be a "connecting link", as it connects two sections of provincial highway, Highway 33. MTO has a Connecting Links grant program to which municipalities can apply for funding to assist with maintenance of the roadway and drainage features within the right-of-way.

Loyalist Township applied to this program in October 2022 with the intention to use any grant funding for the design, field investigation, and tender documents to rehabilitate the section of Main Street - Bath described above. In April 2023 we were advised that our application was successful. In December 2023, Council awarded the contract for design, field investigation, and tender document preparation to AECOM Canada Ltd.
