Loyalist Township's Climate Action Plan, known as ResiLienT Loyalist Township, was created to guide local efforts in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, improving public health, supporting the local economy, and enhancing social equity. Approved by Township Council in 2021, the plan includes a corporate GHG reduction target of 49% below 2016 levels and a community target of 25% below 2017 levels by 2031. Climate Action News

The ResiLienT Loyalist Township Climate Action Plan was introduced in 2021 as a roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and bolster community resilience to climate change impacts. Enrolled in the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program, Loyalist Township is dedicated to local action on climate change. The plan encompasses six priority sectors: Sustainable Land Use, Waste Reduction, Transportation, Buildings, Water & Waste Water, and Others. With the aim of providing an update on progress and initiatives, the Township is committed to keeping climate action as a priority for decisions.

Why Loyalist Township needs a climate action plan

Loyalist Township, by joining the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program, has committed to addressing climate change at the local level, contributing to global efforts.

The ResiLienT Loyalist Township Climate Action Plan contains goals and strategies for both the Loyalist Township corporate and community reductions. A corporate GHG reduction target of a 49% reduction in GHG emissions below 2016 levels by 2031 & a community GHG reduction target of 25% below 2017 levels by 2031 was approved by the Council in November 2020.

As part of the Five Milestone PCP program, our community built the ResiLienT Loyalist Township Climate Action Plan. ResiLienT Loyalist Township is a set of strategies intended to guide both corporate and community efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), improve our health, grow our local economy, and increase social equity.
